Death: An Explanation

A sick man turned to his doctor as he was preparing to
Leave the examination room and said,
‘Doctor, I am afraid to die.

Tell me what lies on the other side..’
Very quietly, the doctor said, ‘I don’t know..’
‘You don’t know? You’re a Christian man, and don’t know what’s on the other side?’

The doctor was holding the handle of the door; On the other side came a sound of scratching and whining,

And as he opened the door, a dog sprang into the room
And leaped on him with an eager show of gladness.
Turning to the patient, the doctor said,
‘Did you notice my dog?

He’s never been in this room before.
He didn’t know what was inside..
He knew nothing except that his master was here,

And when the door opened, he sprang in without fear.
I know little of what is on the other side of death,
But I do know one thing…
I know my Master is there and that is enough.’

A Friend of mine at work shared this with me and I thought it was beautiful.

      • LOL! Thank you very much, It inspired and comforted me too. I wish there was an edit button on these posts. I’ve needed it a couple of times when commenting on other people’s blogs.

      • Hehehe! This is embarrassing! 🙂

Yep, me too. I always need to edit my works…even my replies to other blogs. Unfortunately, once the reply is there, I can’t edit or delete it anymore. So mistake remains…

But of course I can always go back and write the correct words instead. 🙂

        Thanks! 🙂

  1. What the heck is a dog doing in a doctor’s office?!?!?!? I am sure that the Health board would freak if they knew a dog was in there.

      • Been reading the blog for a while. You’re stories are great, insightful and inspiring. However, a dog in the doctor’s office just hit me like a pineapple purse to the forehead. I did enjoy the point of the story, but seriously, a dog in a doctor’s office?!?!?!?! Why didn’t you do a ‘Frodo and Gandalf’ analogy, or a Harry Potter and Dobby one…. heck, what about Yoda and Luke and the great all-encompassing Force?

        Just sayin….

Keep up the great work! You’re the top of my daily favorite reads 🙂

  2. Thank you so much, Gary. I didn’t write this, just copied something that a friend sent me. You never know, it might be a small town doctor – in Arkansas they have doctors that are both people doctors and animal doctors. 🙂
