Fall is Here

cherrys iphone 031October is my favorite month.  The cooler temperatures, the fall decorations and pumpkins all around.  I love the smell of pumpkin spice and cranberry candles.

I love the fall decorations, and the change in the air.  Although, I love Halloween, the dressing up, the fun and games, the spooky stories, roasting marshmallows and drinking hot cocoa by the fire.

We are having cooler temperatures here already.  I love that too.  It also means that my favorite holiday will be here soon.  Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday.  It’s a time of family, friends and togetherness.  A time to get together and enjoy each others company and good food.

I love fall.

Failure is Not Permanent

“The only time failure becomes permanent is if you decide you aren’t going to try anymore.” – Cherry Coley

Today I am thankful that failure is not permanent and that we, as humans, can choose to improve ourselves, our lives, our outlook on a daily basis.  What an amazing thing to be able to change direction or correct our error when we find we’ve made a mistake.

I am thankful to have the ability to learn to plan ahead, to not let myself be cornered and to recognize that in every situation, no matter how stressful, there are always choices to be made.  Being human means we can learn better ways to approach lifes challenges.

We do ourselves and the people around us a great service by taking care to look at  situations as they arise, center our focus on the goal, and take the steps necessary to get there.  The circumstances, events, and obstacles have little impact as long as we keep our eyes on the goal we wish to reach.

Today be thankful for the ability to set goals, remain focused, realize that failure just means we are still trying, and the determination to see things through to completion.

Sunshine Blogger Award – October 2012

I am behind on accepting awards.  I will try to catch up.  I think the awards are a wonderful way to encourage fellow bloggers, give a little free press and show some appreciation for the creativity that we all seem to love.

On 10/21/12, http://peacewithmylife.com nominated me for the Sunshine Blog Award   She is real supporter and lover of animals, a Reiki Master (like me) and creater of a wonderful blog that I love to visit!  Please take a moment to stop by and enjoy!

The rules for this award are as follows:

1. link the award to the person who gave it to me (see above);

2. answer the questions about myself (see below);

3. nominate bloggers for the award; and

4. link my nominees to the post and comment on their blog, letting them know about the award (see recipients’ blogs).

Here are the trivia questions.

1. Name a goal you have:  My goal is to have a house of my own – not just a rent house.

2. Name something unusual about you:  I love dancing in the moonlight.

3. My Passion: writing, coaching, photography, and helping other people.

4. Favorite Time of Year: I truly love fall.  Fall has all of my favorite colors, the air is cool and crisp and the promise of winter is in the air.  Fall also has two of my favorite holidays – Halloween and Thanksgiving.

5. Favorite Vacation: I can’t say that I have a favorite yet.  There are a lot of places I still want to see.  Of the places I have visited I have to say I loved Nashville, TN and Winterpark, Colorado.

6. Favorite Physical Activity:   I really love walking in the woods when I have the opportunity.  I used to have two malamutes, we loved walking together.  I miss them.  I love watching sunrise and sunset – they are each different and all are beautiful.

7.  What Puts a Smile on My Face? Watching my girls grow into beautiful teenagers.  I love watching the puppies play and our black cat stretching in a sunbeam.

I am going to nominate 15 bloggers for this award, but there are many more I wish I could add.  Take the time to check out their blogs – you will be glad you did!

 Thank you all for visiting!  Keep up the good work!

Thankful At Work Potluck

It’s here again, the Thanksgiving spread at the office.  Strangely no one really wants to sign the little posted sheets stating what they will bring this year.  It’s a secret, they say.  I have a suspicion they are all in the “I don’t wanna cook, I have to do that next week,” state of mind.  Yeah, me too.

Still I signed up.  I signed the sheet under desserts and am now sitting and wondering what delicious concoction to cook up.  I was talking to some other ladies at the office about Dirt (the jello/cool whip/oreo cookie miracle).

“That’s something you do at Halloween for the kids,” said one lady.

“Don’t forget to add the gummy worms,” laughed another, “you gotta have the gummy worms!”

Meanwhile, the recesses of my imagination I sit and toy with the idea of creating “Dirt” for Christmas instead.  Wandering around in my head are visions of “Dirt” in a pan with tiny pine tree’s for decorations, and a light dusting of powdered sugar for snow, maybe a tiny sleigh, or perhaps a road lined in candy canes?  Hmm, this bears more thought.  I definitely see a creative dessert in the near future.

Now, about that potluck…..looks like maybe a pumpkin pie and fruit salad kind of thing to me.
